Community Group Intern
Jordan Tanksley moved to NYC in 2006, living first in Harlem and then on the UWS. Though she grew up in Connecticut, her family has Southern roots —her Dad was from the South but fell in love with New England while stationed at a Navy base in CT. Jordan attended Harding University in Arkansas where she majored in Business Management and minored in Fine Art and World Religion.
Jordan joined our staff as a WS Community Group Intern in July 2012. She assists in the maintenance and growth of Christian community through our WS congregation. “I love praying at work,” says Jordan. “God is a constant priority at the Redeemer office and I feel my own prayer life being strengthened because of the examples I see at work.” Jordan is also an oil painter, photographer and tap dancer. She grew up singing and loves to sing old hymns and harmonize with her sister. Fun facts? “I can whistle Mozart's Requiem,” says Jordan. “When alone, I'm usually whistling.”
Favorite WS Spot:
"Good Enough To Eat to get the southern comfort food fix—their country bacon might be outlawed by Bloomberg next, and they have the best scones.”
As some of you heard at a recent talk by Tim Keller (click here for meeting audio) we as a church are re-focusing our efforts around the missional identity that has defined Redeemer from its earliest days: we are a church, "‘not for ourselves" (Romans 15.) Each of us has been called by God to serve New York City with the love of Jesus, and to live out his prayer in which we seek to see, "his Kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven."
High Fives to Team HFNY!
Our huge thanks and congratulations to all those who supported and participated in Hope for New York's Charity Bike Ride on September 22! Each of the 66 members of Team HFNY cycled between 25 to 100 miles to raise awareness and money for HFNY projects that help the poor and marginalized of NYC. The team has already raised more than $40,000 toward their goal of $50,000! To see photos of the ride click here and to learn more about supporting Hope for New York click here.
Are YOU ready to be a new Sunday Volunteer?
With the very exciting launch of our new Downtown services, hundreds of us will soon be sent out to form the new Downtown congregation! For all of us staying uptown, that means we have LOTS of opportunities (about 100!) to volunteer on Sundays in roles previously filled by those going Downtown - we need YOU!
Sunday Service Ministries is seeking volunteers at all West Side Services to serve once a month as ushers, greeters, book table, info table, and communion volunteers (communion team requires church membership.) Sign-up as a Community Group to serve together, or sign-up as an individual and meet tons of great new people! Please email Phoebe to learn more and sign up.
Children’s Ministry is seeking friendly people to greet familes, tech-savvy people to run computers and video, engaging people to lead small group discussion and creative people to help out with the Children's worship and storytelling. Children's Ministry volunteers are needed at the 9:15, 11:15 and 5:00 services. Please email Amy to learn more and apply.
