Introducing Omari Hill
Community Group Director and Assistant Pastor
Omari Hill grew up in the Bronx, but moved to Dallas, TX in 1999 and then to Charlotte, NC. He's joining the WS staff on July 1st as our Community Group Director and Assistant Pastor. Omari will shepherd our Community Groups and their leaders, and foster group and lay leadership growth.
Since getting his M.Div. at Reformed Theological Seminary, he's been Campus Pastor of Reformed University Fellowship at UNC-Charlotte. He'd previously worked in retail and information technology. And in 1993, he interned at The Bronx Zoo!
Omari and his wife, Cherise (a dance teacher and choreographer), enjoy watching reality shows and eating out with friends. They strive to create environments where their two children, 3-year-old Mia Simone and 1-year-old Preston Harvey, can engage with others in imaginative play. Omari loves his PlayStation, good lectures and books.
“I’ve always wanted to help NYC prosper through the biblical gospel and the hands of God's people,” says Omari. “I believe that building community is at the heart of God's mission because it flows from His revealed identity. I long to help others practice the hospitality of God because it is the reversal of man's exile from the Garden.”
Fun Omari Fact: “While my favorite boy band in middle school was Boyz II Men, I could also rattle off the names of every member of New Kids on the Block. I'm sorry, but that's just strange for a black kid from The Bronx.”
My family and I spent three days at the Jersey Shore over Father’s Day weekend. (No, not THAT Jersey Shore, the real one!) Having grown up near the ocean, it was fun to watch my daughters jump over the crashing waves—the same way my brothers and I did years ago. And as I stood there watching them, I thought of how the ocean gives insight into what the Bible means when it calls us to “fear God.”
On the one hand the ocean is beautiful and inviting, drawing us into its waves and swells. And yet the invitation must be answered with healthy trepidation—the ocean demands reverence and respect for its power. The riptides and waves that are part of the ocean’s beauty can be dangerous and fatal if we’re foolish enough to dive in without a healthy “fear.”
To be a Christian is to remember that God’s holiness and power are part of His beauty. And love of God includes reverence for his strength and majesty. So this week as you wade into His presence, worship Him with awe and a holy fear that is worthy of our great and beautiful God.
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge,
but fools despise wisdom and instruction.” – Proverbs 1:7
Rev. David Bisgrove

Redeemer women had a wonderful class on relationships!
We were thrilled that more than 60 women from across all congregations attended Sandi Taylor's class last Tuesday! Sandi talked about the kind of relationships we were created for, how we were designed to complete rather than compete with each other, and how God's call to repent, remember and reflect helps us restore broken relationships into relationships that heal. One woman said, “I enjoyed hearing not just what she prepared for the class but also her personal stories and testimonies. It really helped me and encouraged me also.” Stay tuned for more classes coming up at W83 this fall!
