Subject: West Side Update - November 26

Client Services Director
“I used to think that I felt closest to God when I was alone and surrounded by the beauty of nature (such as on a hike in the mountains), but now I feel closest to God when I am surrounded by the very things that reflect him the most—people,” says Meredith Stone. “Even though I am an introvert, I really love seeing God's reflection in the many people who constantly surround you in the city.”
Meredith has lived in NYC for eight years. She moved frequently while growing up, but mainly lived in Michigan and Illinois. She now works as the Client Services Director at the Midtown Pregnancy Support Center.
Meredith is married to a fellow deacon, Jason Stone. They have an 8-month-old son, Evan, who was born six weeks early. “We experienced amazing support from our church community, especially fellow deacons, when our son was born early and was in the NICU for 18 days. The prayers and practical support we received made us feel so cared for. We saw in a very visible way what an awesome community we have at Redeemer, and we are so thankful for that.”
Meredith enjoys volunteering and giving back to others. She currently serves with DOVE (Domestic and Other Violent Emergencies) at NY Presbyterian Hospital as an on-call advocate for people admitted after domestic violence or sexual assault. She also brings this love of service into the Redeemer community, where she’s helped in Children’s Ministries and led a Community Group. And in 2008, she joined the Diaconate.
“I wanted to be a deaconess because I felt that God had provided for me in a way that could pour out to others,” Meredith says. “One of the most rewarding things about supporting others is that it is such a testimony to how God can satisfy when everything else is taken from you—as so many things of this world can be.”
To build a great city for all people through a gospel movement that brings personal conversion, community formation, social justice and cultural renewal to New York City and, through it, to the world.
One of the things I love about Thanksgiving is the way people open their homes to one another. It’s not only a chance to enjoy friendships around a meal, but demonstrates the grace of ‘making room’ for those who wouldn’t otherwise have a place to go. This is an example of one of the four priorities of the West Side congregation in seeking to be a church ‘not for ourselves’ (Romans 15:3). Specifically, seeking to advance Redeemer's vision and loving our neighbors through the way we: Invite People In.
