Grace Assante

In 1981, I moved from Missouri to Manhattan to participate in a six-month internship for a Christian ministry. I started attending Calvary Baptist Church, and during the coffee hour, I met this man from Brooklyn named Bruno. We fell hopelessly in love, and a few years later, we married. As a result, my six-month internship has stretched to 31 years of living, loving, and serving in NYC. We have three grown children which I home-schooled through high school. Since retiring from that career, I enrolled in Liberty University's on-line college program and am currently working on a Masters in Professional Counseling. Bruno and I are excited about serving the Lord through the Downtown congregation. With the Lord Jesus, there is always a new adventure, and by His wisdom and guidance, the new Downtown house of believers will be built up and knit together.

Dear ,

It's so hard to believe that summer is over and fall is upon us!

The summer has been a productive and challenging one for our staff team. We've begun pulling together volunteer teams to work on children's ministry, Sunday serivices, prayer, evangelism, compassion and justice, among other areas of ministry. One significant challenge has been securing a location for our worship services. We've been working diligently to finalize a space and while there have been moments of uncertainty, we remain optimistic that we'll be able to secure space in time to launch this fall.

As the lead pastor of this new congregation, I have held a unique vantage point throughout this journey. This summer has been a reminder to me and to all of us that being a people in mission means our future has and always will be in God's hands. It was true of Abraham who left the security of home to go to a promised land and of all God's people who went forth in faith "looking for the city that is to come" (Hebrews 13). It is no less the case for us as a congregation today. In weeks to come, please continue to pray for our congregation. More than ever, we need to be in prayer for God to provide us with a home as well as abundant opportunities to bring friends and neighbors to our new congregation.

Please make plans to join us on Wednesday, September 26th for our next launch meeting. It will be a night to worship, to pray for our new congregation and to look to God in faith, to lead us as His people serving Downtown together. CLICK HERE for more details and to RSVP. Light refreshments and childcare will be provided; to secure childcare, please email Drew Hammell.

In Christ,
