"I grew up in south Florida and relocated to several other states for school and my career in environmental education. The most surprising move came in 2003, when I took a position at Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I also live in Brooklyn, and love the community vibe and diversity of its various neighborhoods. At Redeemer, I'm co-leader of a community group for women in Brooklyn that's been meeting for 7 years. I feel that God's at work among the people he's brought from all corners of the world to make up this amazing city, and I'm excited to be part of it!"
The Apostle Peter instructs us in his letter that we are "living stones" being built together into a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:5). It's a reminder that as a community, we rely on one another for stability and support, much like stones in a physical building. In many respects, this is precisely what the Downtown Challenge has been. It's been a time for all ministries and congregations of Redeemer to join together in supporting and launching Downtown.
Currently at over 600 givers, we are hoping that over the next few days we'll have over 1,000 givers. There's been a lot of energy and excitement including several volunteer-sponsored parties in support of the Downtown Challenge. (Check out pictures from these events on our Facebook page.)
Please consider making a gift if you haven't already and if you're creative and love throwing parties, email Mai to learn how you too can host a fundraising party with your friends! Though the 17th is Commitment Sunday, parties can be thrown anytime between now and when we announce the result on July 1st. And of course, please be praying for the Downtown Challenge and the launch of our new congregation in the fall.
You can find out more about how to give or participate at www.downtownchallenge.com.

Third Sunday after Pentecost: Trinity Sunday - June 17
"These verses give a picture of an experience of community that is surprising in its ordinariness, especially so quickly on the heels of the extraordinary events of Pentecost. The verses thus serve as a reminder that God’s renewing work by His Spirit has implications for everyday events and decisions, including seemingly mundane ones..."
