Yvette Knight
Deaconess

Yvette is originally from Jamaica in the Caribbean but she has lived in New York City most of her life.  She began attending Redeemer in 1998 and currently serves as a Deaconess and co-leader for her community group. Although she became a Christian as a child,  joining Redeemer revitalized her Christian walk.  It was where she experienced a paradigm shift that helped her understand the importance of grace, service and community.

Yvette loves her job as a Community Relations Manager for a City Agency.  She engages with Brooklyn school communities, community boards and elected officials.  Someone who enjoys spending time with her family and friends, Yvette is a passionate New Yorker who celebrates every aspect of diversity in the city.
Dear ,

Let me share with you two things. First, I want to remind you that this is nomination month for new elders, deacons and deaconesses. Please pray that the Lord would raise up new leaders for the East Side congregation. If you are a member of Redeemer, prayerfully consider members whom you might nominate to serve in one of these capacities. If you are a member and you’ve been nominated, I hope you will seriously consider going through the candidate process. Information about the various roles, their qualifications and the nomination process can be found HERE. The nomination deadline is November 30th, which is coming up soon, so thank you for acting quickly.

Next, Thanksgiving is this week. I recently read Psalm 118 which opens and closes with the same words: "Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever." It then struck me that our lives also from beginning to end should be characterized by thanksgiving. This, of course, is a struggle for all of us because we live in a world in tension, full of stress, suffering and sadness. It's frankly easier to be consumed by these things than by what is most real and beautiful. So how do we become more genuinely thankful? As the psalmist encourages us to do, we should reflect on the goodness of the Lord and his love that lasts forever. When we don't feel thankful, we should refresh our hearts by meditating upon passages of Scripture that highlight the magnificent character of God, as well as ones that redirect our hearts to the heart of God: He is always loving and his love is supremely realized in his Son, who loved us and gave himself for us.  May the Lord, who is good and loving beyond our wildest imaginations lift our weary souls and engender in us heartfelt thanks this Thanksgiving.

Warmly in Christ,
Leo Schuster
Lead Pastor

It’s Nomination Month for Elders and the Diaconate
