James Vanreusel
Deacon, Downtown Congregation

I grew up in Belgium and after attending college in England, I moved to Texas for business school. From there, I moved to San Francisco and finally to New York, where I immediately felt at home. After working on Wall Street for eight years, I decided to shift gears and work in the field of Microfinance with a focus on the South Pacific. My desire to help people and empower them to experience their potential has also led me to become a Leadership Coach. At Redeemer, I was a Gotham fellow in the inaugural class of 2009 and now I serve as a Deacon. The increased responsibility of being an officer in the church and a representative of Jesus has grown my love for the congregation, the Church and God. After living in the UWS for 12 years, I moved Downtown this August and absolutely love it! I’m excited to introduce Redeemer to my downtown friends and to serve my new community as best I can.

Dear ,

I hope this finds you safe after last week’s hurricane. If you have not already, this is a good time to connect with your community group, check in on neighbors, and pray for those in need throughout the area. If you have a specific material need as a result of the hurricane, please email and if you are able to serve, please go to

Now that we've officially launched our worship services, it is important that we be a "bringing" congregation that invites friends and neighbors who have questions, doubts, or are exploring Christianity. Over the next few weeks, starting this Sunday (November 11th), Jeff White will be teaching a class called the Credibility of Christianity. It will be a place for people to comfortably explore and express doubts, objections and challenges to the Christian faith. If you know someone who has questions about Christianity, please invite them to join us! Classes will be held immediately after our AM worship services at our worship venue.

Have a great rest of the week! See you on Sunday!

In Christ,

John Lin
Downtown Congregation Lead Pastor

November is Nomination Month for Elders, Deacons and Deaconesses:
As a church member it is your privilege to consider your fellow members for this special time of nominations. We need your help to recommend Christians with mature faith for these roles. Please take note of the description and qualifications for these roles. Submit a nomination online or pick up a form at any service at the information center.

Donate Toys and Volunteer to Receive Toys at Redeemer!
His Toy Store is Hope for New York’s Christmas outreach to provide toys to families in need all over New York City. There are two ways you, your family, your community group, and your friends can serve this Christmas!
1. Donate a new toy
You can drop off toys on Nov. 4, 11, 18, 25 or Dec. 2 at any Redeemer service! Alternately, you can send toys directly to our office. Don't know what to get? Check out our website for gift ideas and our Amazon Wishlist!
2. Receive toy donations at a Christmas Table
Redeemer Downtowners will bring toy donations to Sunday services throughout the month of November. We need volunteers to help receive the toys every Sunday in November and December 2 before and after services. Find an available slot and sign up HERE
