Tony Vavroch
Deacon Tony Vavroch moved to NYC from Cleveland, Ohio in 1993 and began regularly attending Redeemer services at Hunter on Sunday evenings while sampling other Manhattan Churches in the mornings. Although his Christian community developed eclectically while attending other churches in the 90s, when it came to understanding and living out the Gospel, Redeemer was always his true North. After 10 years of "dating" Redeemer, Tony was led to unite and to serve rather than just consume what Redeemer had to offer. He has been serving as a deacon since 2006. Vocationally, Tony works in the fashion industry as a model manager. |
Dear ,
I’ve always found it fascinating that men are drawn to analogies involving either sports or warfare. What’s the appeal? Some say competition or combat – but could it be something else? In Exodus 17, Moses and two companions are on a hilltop overlooking a battle between Joshua’s men and the Amalekites. Listen to this unusual war story: When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword. In this battle, the staff of God in Moses’ hands needed to stay airborne to turn the tide but Moses could not keep it aloft by himself. To ensure victory, the three men literally had to become “brothers in arms” until nightfall. A common mission “in the trenches” goes a long way towards cementing genuine spiritual friendships between men. East Side Men is a monthly gathering focused on biblical teaching, hearing men’s stories, and developing gospel-based friendships. Come join us at our monthly gatherings.
