Alexander Chou

Alex was born in Taiwan but grew up in the Philadelphia area. Although he wanted to be a comic book artist, he eventually came to NYC to pursue a career in medicine in 1994. While he did find a career in pediatric oncology, he also found, more importantly, his wife, Carol, and Redeemer Presbyterian Church.  The vision that Redeemer has for NYC continues to captivate him and he is excited to be part of it.  He has served at Redeemer in Children's Ministry, leading a Community Group with his wife and has been an elder for five years.  He still considers himself an "East-sider" even though he, Carol and their twin five year olds now live on Roosevelt Island with a small cadre of Redeemerites.

Dear ,

I hate running. I unofficially retired from it several years ago but this spelled doom for my Greek god-like physique.  I joined the office running club when it became evident I was losing the war against inertia.

I get an email reminder for a weekly six-mile run and I immediately respond, “I’m in” – not because I want to run (I don’t), but because telling others I’ll be there commits me. And though running six-miles alone would be unbearable, running with a group makes it…tolerable. As a result my fitness levels are improving and my clothes fit better. Perhaps someday I’ll even enjoy doing it.

Similarly, to grow in faith, we need gospel community. At least seven of the nine fruit of the Spirit cannot be practiced in isolation, so it is clear that we need to be in community to develop spiritually.

This fall, we will be kicking off seven week Beta Groups to welcome newcomers into community life at Redeemer. Perhaps you are new to the city, Redeemer or gospel community. Or perhaps you know someone exploring the Christian faith for the first time. If so, check out our website to learn more about how to sign up for or lead a Beta Group.

In Christ,

Daniel Lee

Beta Groups Coordinator
