Subject: East Side Update- August 12
12 August 2012
Originally from Texas, Lindsay couldn't be happier to be realizing her lifelong dream of living in New York City. She has always had a heart for the city, its people and culture. She graduated from Oklahoma City University with a degree in Acting and has spent the last two years performing and working for an arts organization. Upon moving to the city, Lindsay immediately found a home at Redeemer. She is thrilled to be combining her passions for people, music and ministry in her role as East Side Ministry Coordinator.
Like many Redeemerites, I am not from New York. When I visit home, I long to live closer to my parents and relatives. I think about how much easier life is without the pace, stress and cost of the city and I wonder why God has me in NYC.
When these questions arise, I find myself thinking about the book of Esther. Esther was living in the royal palace when a decree was issued for the Jews to be killed. Esther had the ear of the king and yet she did not want to confront him because she was afraid she would be killed. Her cousin, Mordecai, reminded her that her placement in the palace at this point was not for her convenience but to serve those around her saying, “And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?" (Esther 4:14).
We are about to enter a new ministry year. God could have placed each of us anywhere in the world but he has us at Redeemer Presbyterian in New York City for this season of our lives. There are many opportunities to serve this great city through Sunday Service Ministries, Hope for New York, Community Groups, Children’s Ministry and Beta Groups this year. Take some time to consider: Why does God have you at Redeemer for a time such as this?
East Side Needs Ushers
In the beginning, God brought order out of chaos. You are created in His image. You can help Redeemer’s services avoid chaos by volunteering to join one of our Usher teams. We are currently in great need of servant-hearted people who will help once a month to ensure our services run smoothly. For more information, or to volunteer, email Mark Horton.
See our website for further needs listed on our Service Opportunities page.
Congratulations to our newest East Side member, Christina DeNooyer, who joined the church today and to parents Barry Wu and Iris Tsung on the baptism of their son, Isaac Tsung Wu!
Beta Group Leaders Needed
Beta Groups (7-week Community Groups geared toward people new to Redeemer) are back this fall and we need leaders. Please recommend people who regularly attend Redeemer and who exhibit passion for God, compassion for people, and a teachable spirit (you can recommend yourself!) by filling out the Beta Group Leaders Recommendation Form.
